Boy, that was fast. Back in '68 I was dating a girl that lived 60 miles from my home and after dropping her off at her parent's home I'd be driving home during the time in the early morning that the local FM radio station would play that ditty, giving the disc jockey 27 minutes to do whatever. Later, I could recite the entire song at a regular Thanksgiving gathering at Big Sur, California.

Re: SSSSM - Part Deux

I won a $100 bet off of a guy once at a gig who said he would give me that if i could play just one song for him. Alice's Restaurant, he had asked all over the world and nobody had even played the tune, never mind knew the words. I missed a few words or got them wrong but he said "near enough" and paid up. This was in 1995.

In my case, it was flying hang gliders at Big Sur, after a day of flying, retreat to the campsite, enjoy some herb and develop an appetite for turkey, and since I consider Alice's a Thanksgiving type song, I would rattle it off to the amazement of others.

Re: SSSSM - Part Deux

He sped it up, cut 11 minutes off, but I played the whole thing. For you folks under 50, groove to Arlo and learn about the draft.

I looked all over and could not find the original with the original album cover, this is the closest and I believe even though the audio has been digitally cleaned, it is from the original.

I bet my Dutch friends here at CF will get a kick out of this......

Hey Nick, check out Arlo.

Re: SSSSM - Part Deux

We better say goodbye from the two ageing hippies and return the thread to it's "normal' conversation. Sorry folks.

Re: SSSSM - Part Deux

Your right, zeehag knows I'm a geriatric old fart now, and I was trying to pass myself off as some younger stud.

But I did enjoy listening to it again.

Nice post .

I must confess to really missing being married - if 2013 does arrive will be getting off me backside on that score.......

.....personally I don't see the woman already into boats (let alone already have own) being a big enough pool for me to fish in - I am something of a minority taste .

Am thinking either someone around my age (45) who a) has been through life a bit already - ups and downs, any kids already off her hands (and my wallet!) and b) has next to SFA better to do than give me / the boat thing a go........or going back to SE Asia - either to recycle an in-law, or go hunting. Plusses and Minuses to both approaches, and neither without risk - but don't really have the energy anymore to repeat the last approach, the thick end of 10 years of insanity as a courtship .

Either way, someone who can use a sewing machine would be a plus - less than 5 limbs and ideally on the anorexic side of skinny, but those last 2 more of wish list items . 2 heads? yeah, I can work with that .
