I've got 1 reef in; not ready for bear-poles. Going down to 2 reefs real soon, making tea, and getting my kayak helmit ready.

Re: Spain and Ebola: Discuss

The system in Dallas "worked" in so far as no one in the general population has contracted Ebola. Every day that goes by will decrease exponentially the probability that someone will. There is still a risk of infection within the health care workers but there has been no evidence that this got outside the hospital. No matter how much screaming you see in the news none of the stories about traveling nurses and lab techs suggests there was ever any risk to the public. Was it smart to let them travel? No, but only on the grounds of public misinformation. It caused well meaning people to over react and waste resources. It made politicians look worse too. Scientifically they represented no significant risk to the public. None of the crazy talk has been shown to be right. The science known before this event in Dallas has been proven correct. Why no one wants to believe that is a complete mystery. Why do people ignore facts and believe the worst?

Regarding the patient "lying", remember Dr. House said "everybody lies". Doctors and nurses know that but what can you do about it?

There is an interview of a doctor who attended Mr. Duncan at the end. It is on the WFAA web site. It's not very long and worth reading. He doesn't come off looking too good but he gives some new facts that rebut the "common perceptions" about the patient's care.

You have got to be kidding.

Facts? What facts? There are no facts. There were never any facts. There are only interpretations (Wittgenstein was right) and on a small tip of an iceberg. What about the unknown unknowns that lay beneath? There's for sure lack of credibility though, and as such, we can only reef to see if the storm comes our way.

Re: Spain and Ebola: Discuss

By the results and posts on this thread you can see why the news media only concentrates on sensation and bad news. People love it.

I ignore the whole thing, whatever it is that is the current "daily scare" I usually do not know anything about it.. The days pass with a few laughs and some adventures. I may get it I may not. I may drown at sea. I may not. I may get killed on my motorcycle or in my car. I may not.

You may get it. You may not. But while you are worrying about if you will, or demanding the authorities do something to protect you from it, but carrying on your life as normal, then you have the same chance as me. The only difference is that I will have had more enjoyment of the days that went before perhaps. Perhaps not.

Coops.

The weird thing is that if the airlines changed their pressurisation and air exchange settings, a much healthier environment would be enjoys by all. Yes you are correct.. MONEY! ..... it takes a bit more fuel to do it.

Re: Spain and Ebola: Discuss

I've tried several times to write a post reasonably discussing our new Ebola response protocol that just came out, and have deleted it every time.

I think the safest thing to say is that we just got the cliff notes version today, and the whole thing is still being drafted.
