Sold the Boat - So We Bought a Marina !

I guess we missed the Manta so much that we had to get back to the water.... never mind that it's frozen 4 months out of the year. Hey, ever hear of Ice Fishing??

Today we closed on the purchase of Sheridan Lake Marina in the Black Hills National Forest. It's God's country up here, and now we can stay connected to the boating world - the high altitude boating world at least. Too bad the circumnavigators here won't be able to stop by.... no quarantine flag required

Check us out at sheridanlakemarina.com - excuse the website but it came with the place and has yet to be updated.

A free beer to anyone from CF who stops in to say Hi!!

Hope you guys are all well and still enjoying the lifestyle - I think of the forum & its members often.

I have a dream some day of owning a few mooring balls, some cabanas, and a little bar/grill on a tropical beach somewhere.

Great news!
Did you acquire both the Sheridan Lake Marina and the Horse Creek Inn; or just the marina, in lieu of the inn? Whatever, it’s good news for you & we. It can’t ever hurt to know a marina owner (nor an innkeeper) .
Best of luck!

The marina where I keep my boat is owned by a very nice guy and his wife, but it's not their primary gig. He works in the IT department of a large and well-known financial institution here in town. He's been around boats his whole life and he and his wife bought the marina about 8 years ago - apparently the place was pretty much in distress and he got a decent deal.

I'm sure he's never going to become a millionaire, but he has done a lot to fix the place up and I like it. I would love to have a place like that myself; I think it would be pretty cool.

But I have way too many projects as it is!

I love it and if the last few miles weren't so hard to cross I'd sail over tomorrow

Since I have a flat learning curve we bought Horse Creek Inn 4 days before the Sturgis Bike Week rally. It was like drinking from a fire hose for the first 2 weeks.... Not having learned my lesson we then bought the marina this week.

We think the 2 really compliment each other. We can now rent you a boat, sell you bait & beer for the trip, feed you at Horse Creek Inn when you're done, then rent you a cabin to sleep in. Kewl eh?

Hope all is well with you Gord.

Wow Mark!
Sounds great and like a boat will keep you busy seven days a week!
What a difference huh?
Best of luck.

Sorry I couldn't buy your Manta.

Hey, I just looked at the site. Cool. Cats outnumber the monos there. Heh!

Awesome and congratulations!

Now we can get a definitive answer to high altitude sailing speed vs. low altitude sailing speed (gotta run and hide now)

What's your altitude? We have the New Mexico Sailing Club marina at about 7,100 feet and I've sailed a few times at Dillon, CO, 9,017 feet surface elevation.

More important ... what kind of beer do you serve???
