Software for YC Web Page Board??

My yc web page, nsyc.net is basic. I suggested we might have a "login" to a "Bullitin Board" so members could put up stuff like "any one want to go racing Thrusday? ". I volunteered to look into this. So??? any experts with ideas? ... Thanks, Frank....._/).....

Re: Software for YC Web Page Board??

Well, these forums run on vBulletin, which is quite sophisticated - but the sailing clubs out here, both the beachcat club and the yacht club, use Facebook, which gives ample interaction as well as the ability to upload photos and files (constitutions, minutes, etc).

Some of the more mature members were a little against it at first, but since they had already made the transition at one stage from snail mail to email, we persuaded them to get 'junkmail' accounts to establish a FB membership - and it has actually worked out really well. Some of them even get to see photos of the great grandkids back in Blighty now!!!

Re: Software for YC Web Page Board??

Thank you Saucy Sailoress,

I understand what you're saying. Cruisersforum uses proprietary software which you/somebody put a lot of time into keeping it running. FB will give us (as friends, etc) privacy and a BBoard and functionality similar to CF for our club to share. Paranoid members can be told to log into FB using a (e.g., gmail) account which isn't part of their work, whatever life.

Actually, I'm one of the paranoid - I've been a computer professional since 1970 but have stayed off FB because of my desire to keep a wall up. I guess if I use the mail addr I use for "job searches, etc".... But my problem. I've got to look into that.

Thanks for giving me a reason to go into FB, even if it is the second me....

We use Ning and are very happy with it. I used to be the webmaster and it is very easy t administer. It was even setup by a fellow member who knew nothing about web pages.
