umm avoid knockdowns? A carbon wishbone rig will do better? I don't want to find out with either set up.

Welcome
Hello Amidships! Thank you for steering us all back on topic. If you haven't already go and join the SSSSM group and post a profile. Shop around the profiles for a sailing woman that you find enticing and contact her. It's a start.*

Must be.....
Easier to discuss boats to fall in love with, than to discuss relationships these days.
So moving forward
Has anyone read about, studied or wondered how birth order effects your relationships through out your life?
For example; a first born will be better matched with anyone other than another first born.
When I reflect back on my relationships the theory seems to hold a lot of merit. I haven't studied it much. Just a few articles I've found online but would like to learn more about it.

Fascinating topic, Gadagirl!
Went through a phase of reading a lot about it. There's a lot of confirmation bias involved in reading the soft psych theories.
There was a professor at Erlangen-Nuremberg who did a lot of research, but I'm blanking on his name. IIRC, he did a lot with the family-systems-theory people, a very mixed bag. One thing I found interesting was his idea that a child with the same birth-order position as one or both of her/his parents may have especially pronounced traits sterotypical of that position.
Frank Sulloway was the only author I found who's done anything resembling scientific study on the subject.
http://www.sulloway.org/borntorebel.html
For various biographical and developmental reasons, I don't fit the traits expected of my "position." As for relationships, what do I know? I'm just in this thread to enjoy the good company of a lot of people who are obviously not really looking for a partner any more than I am.
Fun little quiz: Birth Order and Personality Test
This blog entry actually pertains to what you were talking about. ;-) http://www.prettyinpinkmegan.com/201...er-theory.html

Don't go making assumptions, aegean! A lot of us here actually ARE looking. Not very successfully yet for most, we we are still hopeful. If you look at the SSSSM forum (as opposed to this conversation) you can read our plaintive cries for "the one".
Meanwhile, I've started south - got as far as Palm Beach/Lake Worth. But - I got towed here when my engine quit! Not being a mechanic, I have the local guys working on getting me going again. So I'm here on the dock, temporarily with wifi ... so can keep up with y'all.

You know, it just amazes me and I have concluded without a doubt that 99 percent of sailing problems stem from the engine. The other 1% from the shaft.
Flysci - you should take an engine course for a week - either in Annapolis or at Mack Boring. Flysci - I should take one too!

margo--- did it sound like sputter and los of fuel?? prolly the fuel filters are blocked-- we get that all the time, esp after bad weather and choppy seas--is dirty fuel if so--is easy to fix--change out primary filter in the line and go.... when ye get to where ye are going, then polish fuel--i can teach ye that one--is easy. no silver polish. no maguiars....lol filter the beejeeziz outa it and make sure no dirt in tank. or algae.
if is something else--yipes. hope is only filters and bad fuel. is a rash lately....always carry spare fuel and oil filters, never know when ye may be needing 5 or 10 or so on a passage.......
oh yes, also use anti algae substance in fuel...helps
biocide..good stuff.... good luck-- keep us posted.
