I have lived most of my life in Huntington and like everything it changes. It is still a great city, actually heading down to the pier later to watch the end of the US Open of Surfing and catch Weezer free in concert.

Tropic, isn't it great to live on the coast! I always thought when I get too old to sail I'd buy a Trawler. Then when I am too old and rickety for a trawler I'd get a little cottage on the beach or a floating cabin. Can't imagine life without the sea.

I can't live away from the ocean, it is always close by. I once visited my sister in CO and was going to stay the summer and couldn't deal with it. I love mountains, but just closer to the ocean.....LMAO! I have land on the Big Island of Hawaii and thats my old man plan, although a houseboat would be a kewl idea as well.

salty--there is a crab shack across the bay from me, but by the time ye get to me, i will be in mexico where lunch is cheaper so ..... if you time this for after my haul out in puerto escondido , whenever, we can go sailing for a minuet.

i have no yardarms nor planks.....yet.

I grew up in Hawaii (up to 7 years old actaully), on Hickam AFB. I went to Fledgling Hanger Elementary, though I don't think it is around anymore. My earliest memories are of sandy beaches, palm trees, and my prize collection of sharks teeth . Oh and poi, I loved poi cause you could eat it with your fingers.

well zeehag. might actually do that for a lot of news was handed to me on Friday that I need to consider getting a boat sooner. Still figuring it out and will analyze tomorrow. But understand u r headed to carib for some sort of refit, and maybe you might end up getting some beefcake pool-boys to make your crabcakes for you. I heard them boyz were in season there and looking for damsels in need of boat repairs...vunerable damsels are attractive 4 sure .

Salty grew up in med, east coast and europe. Salty tried living in Hotlanta for 1 year and went mad. Cant imagine living in mid-west etc. Need to at least be within 8 hours driving distance to ocean.

Hawaii is great! The weather is perfect and the waves are very tasty! When I lived there I also fell in love with Poi, it is an acquired taste! It sounds like we were both fortunate how we grew up, could not imagine growing up in Ohio or some other hell hole..LOL!

I think maybe 'self reliant' may have a different meaning, or resonance, for women. Traditionally we have relied on men for so many things. So it feels like freedom.

We are then free to want men around without needing men just to get by. Want them for what only men can do! Heehee.
