What Personal Ad's and Posts are Attracting?
Ok, heres one to stir up the bucket:
What personal ad's and posts do you find attracting - likes vs dislikes?
Do you like ad's that speak clearly, with maturity and with a touch of honesty about what they desire and who they are - something that touches your passions?
Do you dislike ad's and posts that:
- use LOL all the time LOL and sometimes LOL never end LOL or LOL you can't LOL understand or LOL mean something? LOL?
- use ..........................super ellipses for whatever reason perhaps......because they......brain lock?
- use graphics for punctuation or some other ill effect?
- use the phrase "I love to laugh" when describing themselves at the beginning of an ad.
- make fun of defenseless cute animals?
So, what turns you on about a particular single ad?

Chicken/egg question
Is it easier to make a cruiser out of a friend, or a friend out of a cruiser?
It's hard enough finding a soulmate in the "everyday world", much less in the sub-culture of sailing and cruising. Then again, women who might love to play house on land give me a slightly shrill, "You want to do WHAT?" when I suggest ditching the day job and going nomad.
Guys - what's your experience? Gals - what makes it "OK" to live outside the box?

Finding the right partner is mission impossible at the best of times, so its not going to happen halfway round the backside of the world in a minority group of eclectically minded, tempramental saillors

SaltyMonkey,
I can only speak for myself, but I am attracted to a post that demonstrates the poster's sense of humor first and foremost. I guess it's because that's the quality that makes life fun no matter how tough things get. Of course before getting very far I also want to know we share basic values. But I find that those come out best and truest, in many small ways, in the course of all sorts of stories and discussions Seldom is there a need to directly enumerate a list of values; after all such words as "honesty", at least I find, can mean surprisingly different things to different people. I'd rather have the demonstration.
Whew - not doing such a good job showing my sense of humor am I!?
Came across this quote which tells to my views at this point in my life:
"A great marriage is not when the 'perfect couple' comes
together. It is when an imperfect couple learns to enjoy their
differences." -- Dave Meurer
Ciao,
Margo

the things we learn as we age-many never learn
is easier to find a partner for sex than it is to find a sailmate with whom you are comfortable. sailing style is important if you plan on sailing much at all. much also depends on the degree of passion for the sea.
i personally donot plan on any kind of return to land living
saltymonkey-just remove the dots.

This is somewhat fascinating to me. It seems to imply that most women actually prefer living "inside the box", no? I think that many women sailors on this site would disagree with this statement, myself included. Or perhaps we are just a select few

You've got to give a little, take a little,
and let your poor heart break a little.
That's the story of, that's the glory of love.
You've got to laugh a little, cry a little,
until the clouds roll by a little.
That's the story of, that's the glory of love.
As long as there's the two of us,
we've got the world and all it's charms.
And when the world is through with us,
we've got each other's arms.
You've got to win a little, lose a little,
yes, and always have the blues a little.
That's the story of, that's the glory of love.
That's the story of, that's the glory of love.
You can join in the chorus at any moment.

"Wow zeehag. Great quotes and thoughts! Thanks you!"
"When you love someone not in spite of their imperfections but because of them. "
just emphasizing that which seems appropriate -or, i could just say concur with above, but that doesnt say with what do i concur.
and i ask again...who says we HAVE to live inside a box?? or think inside one--or do anything inside of a box. and , who built the box to begin with.
sorry--i forgot to mention that song--yes is a good one--grew up with that one....
