SIM Card from iPhone... insert it into iPad... Question.

If I take my SIM card out of my iPhone and insert it into my iPad... it gives me cellular data on my iPad. Yipee!

Question: Am I using my tethering data or am I using my unlimited data at that point?

Not sure, but technically there is no tethering, so it seems unlimited to me. Nothing is transiting to another device via WiFi.

Re: SIM Card from iPhone... insert it into iPad... Question.

Why not instead just turn on your iphone "hotspot" feature, then use your iPad via the Iphone wifi. Secure the network using a password. Then you can use your phone and ipad at the same time.

That's what we do. But this season, instead of everyone sharing off one iphone hotspot, I purchased a $20 per month unlimited data plan for the ipad as an add-on through the same TMobile account, just to make things easier.

as described it will just use your data, but making a hotspot is much easier.

Because if you use the hotspot option, I believe you are limited as to how much data you can use? No? Is that not the case?

Pete,

Contact your carrier, there are many different data plans.

Re: SIM Card from iPhone... insert it into iPad... Question.

You're never going to get masses of data for tethering though. 3 in the UK used to offer unlimited but that is now very limited.

So, yeah, as others have said, probably best to buy a data sim for the iPad. Even then though you will be limited. No-one that I know of offers an unlimited data sim, especially on the continent where limits are a little more stingy than in the UK. Best I found in Spain was 20gb

Technically you are not tethering. Although your data may be unlimited, your plan may have adage usage policy and if you use a huge amount if data you may find your data speed slows down because of throttling.
However. You haven't said what provider and what plan, nor where you are using it, so it's hard to say the exact consequences.

I fall back to what Ken said, call your carrier. When you get dinged you will have a stronger argument than "A bunch of people, unknown to me, on the Internet, said.."

OK, that helps. I assume this is the
T-Mobile ONE™ plan

There should be no problem with what device you choose to put your SIM into, excepting devices that are locked to other networks. Looking at the web site, Bahamas is covered at no extra charge.
https://www.t-mobile.com/optional-services/roaming.html

Do call the customer care line to see if they can see any reason why it would not be within the rules of the plan. I can't

I have no direct experience of that particular network or plan but aside from being "some random person on a forum" I'm a Solutions Architect with 20+ years experience in mobile networks in most of the continents, especially rating and billing. Given my assumptions, I'd be prepared to bet on it either being no problem at all, or very easily resolved.
