Off grid, like solar panels, batteries, inverter, roll your own or gen-set?

A modest setup of panels and batteries, and inverter. A solar slow pump to push spring water up the bluff to a 500 gallon water tower. Wood burning stove. Had a Wild Blue dish for the net, but use a MiFi now.

Wide variety of wildlife all around. Plenty of peace and quiet.

You nailed it. Your mention of the hot winds I had forgotten about, but do you remember the shore side hot springs the cruisers build up with rocks for a hot tub experience?

I don't know how you do it, but I just use GE's file (top left corner) go to "save" then "save image" chose where you want to save to your hd, then I load to Photobucket so that I can link back to any forum.

Interesting! One of my all-time favorite beaches to camp while sea kayaking is just south of there.

We were in Bahia Concepcion on Christmas Eve, a few years back, when a French catamaran anchored in the cove. They came ashore by dink, spread out their beach towels, removed their tops, and spent a few hours sun-bathing. Extremely difficult to keep my nephews focused on clamming at that point.

Fond memories. The clams were amazing.

Yep.
There's also another one between Agua Verde and Puerto Escondido.
It's a nicely protected, tight anchorage for about 3 boats, and was usually available because it wasn't listed in Charlie's Charts.
Someone actually marked the location of the actual hot spring with some old car coil springs.

Here's my "digs"...and marina. The boat is in Mission Bay, San Diego, CA. Quivira Basin to be exact. It's across the street from Sea World San Diego but the upside of that is I'm only 10 minutes to open water as opposed to keeping the boat in the "big bay" of San Diego with it's military fly-overs every 15 minutes, and homeland security gun boats flying by you at 30 knots with snot nosed kids in flak jackets and automatic weapons living out their fantasies... The photo of the back yard/pool & spa at night is for laughs... I call it my "Club Med" look! Lighting...cheap trick. Ha!...

What do you fly? In the '60s flew a Skyhawk and Luscombe 8E, both on Edo floats.
With the reduced pitch prop, the Luscombe was so slow you could almost walk alongside it. Was great for spotting wrecks on the reef platform.
