Sea Mile to Number of Posts Ratio

Just thinking out loud while my last layer of deck epoxy dries.

Rather than the forum listing the number of posts a person has made, wouldn't it be more useful to see something like the ratio of Sea Miles traveled to Number of Post ratio? We could weight it to include years of boat ownership, years of living aboard, years of cruising, etc.

I don't know...just something fun to play with besides myself...ha ha ha

The number of posts is a verifiable fact.. however.. when I see some folks claims of mileage vs their age I do wonder about honesty.
Personally I have no clue as to how many miles I've done.. tho' 2012 stuck in my mind for a variety of reasons and I did just under 19,000nm that year.

In some areas of expertise, something like that might correlate with the quality of the answer, but I've posted based on knowledge as a biological psychologist (e.g. basis of seasickness) and a diesel mechanic might never have been to sea. I doubt that you could find a single measure, but I suspect that our moderators pay some attention to the perceived quality of posts in assigning stars and labels.

The more sea miles the greater the risk that the poster has spent too much time alone and talking to themselves. If a person does that for too long the left lobe keeps agreeing with the right lobe and V/V. That in turn leads them to believe that only they and they alone knows the correct way that things should be done..

Do not ask how I know this.....

Someone who works in a boatyard, as a shipwright, or as a rigger, or a sailmaker, etc. may only get one mile a year, but I'd still sure like to hear what they have to say!

The last time I looked at the chart plotter it it said something like 15,000 miles. Well we have only gone from San Fran to Florida and then back and forth from Guatemala a few times. That 15k total must include a lot of tacking. I'd rather drop the anchor and have a beer so a good number of those miles are looking for a spot to anchor. No, I think it should be the number of days you have anchored out with the fear of dragging, to the number of posts you have made.

Well it is true that there are skills that don't require sea miles or miles dragged at anchor...darn, so much for that bright idea.

That is a pretty high standard. But with your electrical standards not that great..

Quite the contrary. My electrical standards have gotten me around the world. Yours haven't.

You have posted pictures of your electrical system with it's terminals crimped with Vise grips etc, looking like it could all burst into flame at any moment, yet you have sailed around the world. It just goes to show it ain't all about your electrical system.
