Sailors be warned

I find it ominous that I have picked a hobby where the majority of songs/stories about it involve phrases such as "wish to god I'd never been born". I should take that as a warning?

It definitely has its extremes of elation and misery. But then what is life if you don't have one to appreciate the other? Otherwise, we might as well stay indoors and watch TV all the time.

I have been told sailing is 80% "Ahh this is the life!" 15% "Ahhh damn what are we going to do now?" and 5% "God just let me live and I promise...". So far all of my limited experience has been either "Why aren't we moving?" or "Oh yea look at us go! We're flying now. (probably not doing two knots).

And all I can think about is getting out there again.

There are other songs, just not all that mainstream:

Re: Sailors be warned

The flip side, after all of the fear and machinery failures and danger and exhaustion and expense and fights.
I caught a nice tuna in the anchorage today, we're making sushi for dinner.
I caught the longest wave of my life today.
I jumped off of the boat into the warm water just because I could.
The 2 beautiful, tan South African sisters on the boat next to us were running around naked on deck half the day today.
My kid caught his first 4 fish today.
I saw an 8 year old girl paddle into her first wave today.
I'm sitting here in surf trunks and no shirt, after sunset, with all the hatches open.
My wife looks good in her new bikini.
It feels worth it to me right now.
