SailNet.com

I was reading through a few posts on the forum at Sailnet.com today. Seems to be a few regular posters who used to post here now posting there.
Is it where people go if they get upset on this forum?

Actually, a lot of the people from over there came here. I did 4 years ago when we had just started out and basicly dropped out after the management change at Sailnet. But I still like their setup and the members for the most part.

I'm slipped here now.

I have an RSS feed to their forums, and just lurk there (ofcourse, I don't post much here, maybe because I don't know much yet). My biggest issue with them is all the newreader bot postings.

This place seems much more active.

I still belong to a couple of the mail lists hosted by sailnet, but sale, then bankruptcy, I didn't want anything to do with them. So don't visit there. I understand that they pretty much handle powerboater stuff now anyway??

When I last looked, their prices didn't offer much savings over prices here - taxes vs. shipping was a wash - so I would rather support my local retailers.

I contribute as much "stupid" stuff as I can. That way the old salts around here can disabuse me of my misimpressions - LOL.

OK, I'll say it. The signal to noise ratio at sailnet was what I posted about when giving kudos to the admins around here. Too much sniping, political rantings and all kinds of stuff over there.

Great community here.

Sailnet used to be better than it is today. The articles they still have are all first rate and the authors well known. We have a few folks that stop by here too. Times do change and the Sailnet folks are not the same as they used to be. They are and always were a commercial site to sell stuff and that is not a bad thing as they do keep it at a distance.

The Internet has brought out a few good places to hang out for sailors and from time to time you may feel the urge to go other places to browse a bit. I sure do. But at the end of the day you go to the places you feel most comfortable with. CF has been a great place for me and we hope it can be a great place for a lot of folks. We don't need everyone to be a great place.

If there are things you don't like send a private email to any Admin or Moderator and we will see it gets discussed. It's alway been that way. You have to understand that right now we are close to 7,000 members and not everyone is the same. We try to keep it a friendly place where we don't let things get out of hand and it can be suitable for most members of the family. We are not going away from that policy at all but we would do other things where there was significant interest. We are clearly not done trying to make the place better.

Nothing wrong here I won't be sailing off in a hurry.

Was just clearing out some links in my favourites and came across it. Had been a member there for two years more than here and never visited. Saw a few names that used to post here and just wondered.
