Sailing a Viking Boat from Norway to the US

... not really Off Topic (Monohull sailboats or Navigation would fit as well ;-)) ...

Draken Harald Hårfagre | The largest viking ship built in modern times

or to get a quick idea have a look here first:https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_c...&v=WgO8mDbK_ZI

IMPRESSIVE, wish them all the luck. They are still looking for crew ...

Great site, Carsten! This is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity to experience History first hand in this beautiful Viking ship. Vikings rule!

Re: Sailing a Viking Boat from Norway to the US

For me the risk would not be worth the reward. The Vikings have already proven it possible and at what expense?

In the end, mankind has been there and done that.

The Viking ships and crews that ran into disaster on the crossing also didn't get to document the failures because they all perished. So we really don't have a good feel for the risk.

That northern route can be mighty rough waters.

Lake Superior,
The risk and reward is for the love and experience of adventure. Nothing else. Good luck and good sailing.

I personally allocate my risk to, "boldly go where no man has gone before."

Packed into a marginally safe open craft with lots of other folks doesn't blip my adventure meter. But hey, we're a diverse species.

Carsten,
They also have a newsletter that you can receive when you sign up on the link that details their activities and their route which will also include the Great Lakes. What a great Summer for History! Good luck and good sailing.
