End of the world caused by politicians hmmm. Well I suppose they could bore us all to death

Look to history - Egyptians, Greeks, Romans, French, English - all empires lost where politicians played a major role in the destruction. Maybe, even include the USA now-a-days. . .

Funny,

On some issues you and I disagree strongly and I find you very hard headed.

Then on others we agree strongly, at which times I find you wise.

This is one where we are in agreement.

On the surface they appear to be instrumental to our demise.

However, I believe that most politicians (rare exceptions) are not leaders, they run in front of the heard and yell "Follow me." Their skill lies not in what they accomplish, but in their ability to predict the heard movement.

So I feel that their value, to us enlightened few (who agree with me) it too use them as barometers of public opinion. At best they are a crude instrument.

Damn... there goes my simplistic view that many/most are mouthpieces for vested interests... rarely for the people.... those are usually assassinated

I wouldn't go that far, you still need bait.

But do you really want to eat anything that would go after a politician?

If you use a politicain for bait you're going to catch.................a lawyer! Who will sue you for damages and take your boat. Then what are you going to do?

Although I have encouraged this, perhaps in today's environment and due to recent events we should cool it a little with the politician jokes?

Im not sure whether to laugh or cry that this thread is still running, I laugh becuase its seems so juvenile and cry becuase so many seem almost serious.

I really dont think that at the fall of civilisation a useful thing will be a boat,

Think of how many people would have survived the disasters of the past , holocaust, wars, natural disasters, etc etc, had they had a good cruising boat and the international mobility it provides.
Amazing that they are willing to give up a good cruising boat, an excellent survival tool, in hard times, to try save something as vulnerable, expensive, and easy to lose as a house.

No Brent to suggest that any numbers of people could escape say a world war or whatever is naive. Simply leaving and running away is hardly a solution. Equally boats are not self sustaining. You need access to food water, technology repair facilities even sail makers etc. Boats today are just as much a function of western technology as anything else. We are allowed such freedoms because we are rich. Remove our trappings of civilisation and wealth and I don't think boats are the answer
