The staff has already contemplated that, but it was rejected because the special zombie killing weapons were deemed too controversial a topic for a sailing forum

The poorer of the poor in poor countries lives will change for the worse, before its felt in the west.
Rapidly rising commodity prices affects them drastically, and first.
the mid-east riots are a reflection of this.
And perhaps portents our pending situation as the middle class is being squeezed.

I doubt they will be so friendly to broke gringo/farangs/howleys...

Brazil, as one of the BRIC nations has a burgeoning middle class. Reflected tin their large numbers in West Marine stores in Florida...

Trying to cover all the bases, but I don't have a stash of gold. Plenty of guns and ammo, though.

you forgot the 32 rules of Zombie land. I personally think #2 is the best. The Double tap!

You might want to give this a look see. At the rate things are going, hes predicting the wheels coming off in mid July. The Japanese quake just put the death warrant out for the global economy according to his line of thought.

Personally I don't think he's too far wrong. Maybe the timing but every thing else he says rings true.

BTW One thing about the poor we upper level people never take into consideration is this: they have a heck of a lot less distance to fall than we do. They are more adaptive because of it. We on the other hand will be quite lost without our SUVs, our IPod, laptops, ATMs, lattes and all the other dreck we so cherish. We will do a face plant while they just dust themselves off and get moving again.

The mid east imports much of their food
Central America grows much of their own foods or it grows naturally.
Big difference in my mind

For example Costa Rica:
Agriculture:
accounts for 17% of GDP and 70% of exports; cash commodities - coffee, beef,
bananas, sugar; other food crops include corn, rice, beans, potatoes;
normally self-sufficient in food except for grain

Re: Sailboat for End of The World Getaway (Merged)

The poor in America - especilly in the big cities are ze issue.
Hurricane katrina is a great example of what can happen quickly and what the authorities do/don't do about it...
Also he mentioned in the video that crops/fishing etc are reducing as the poor cannot afford the rising fuel costs.
Subsistence farmers will not be affted so much.
Which is what many believe American survivors will need to be...

Re: Sailboat for End of The World Getaway (Merged)

That is the problem in the USA, we live too far from the sources of food.
If I was in Costa Rica finding food wouldn't be very hard and if exports were cut off, CR would have too much food because it normally exports a good percentage of it.
Simplistic...maybe....but I can grab pineapples and bananas off the trees on the side of the road in CR....try that in Chicago
With the excess food supply in CR, I don't think that life would be as bad as in a big city in the states.

Thanks for the Michael Rupert link. Always good to hear from an optimist. Last I heard from him was 2002-2003, back then he was tring to set up a compound in Oregon, looks like he almost did it. Be afraid, very afraid, send money and we will save you...from what?...ourselves?

I realize y'all have moved on from the issue of zombies, but I just had to post this. I don't remember where I got it from. Hopefully it wasn't from CF. Or, worse, from earlier in this thread!!

I would have thought that a boat is the last thing you would want at the apocalypse. A modern sailboat is a function of a modern society. If that ceases to exist. Well. !! Equally it's perceived as wealth hence you would be the source of endless attacks. Lastly most remaining functioning states tend to aggressively protect or close their Borders and adopt shoot to kill policies. Where would you land.

Me I'd prefer dry land

This one's for you!
Minneapolis pays zombies $165K for arrest during shopping protest -

Great thread, although I refuse to look at the mates "Zombie/Vampire" books.

BTW, "The best boat to go cruising in is the one you already have." (Sensible Cruising: the Thoreau Approach/ Don Casey). It worked for me, I left five years ago, and haven't been back since.
