I was laughing when I read the comment and was expected somebody to react like you did

Alcadi.... if you do some research you'll find that the Royal Family get a wage for 'Services'... and they've had quite a few cuts over the last 20yrs...
The Queen, Charles and a very few others get their's from property of The Crown... the rest work alongside us 'Commoners'....

And where the so called Royal Family get their money.. look at the British budget.. tehy all living on tax payers money
Yep, they live on the dole but not very much of it. I Googled:

Quote:
The Royal accounts state that the total public cost of supporting the monarchy was £38.2m ($57.8m) in the year to March 31, the equivalent of 62 pence (94 cents) per person.
Now, to give this a nautical theme before they close the thread........Prince William and Kate christened a boat on Thursday and his bachelor party was only accessible by boat. Does the Queen still have access to the Royal yacht Brittania?

If he owned a sailboat......what kind do you think it would be?

Re: Royal Wedding a British Tsunami

I'm not aware of an American head of state that's still doing a full days work as the Queen does at 88 yrs of age. She has slowed down in the last couple of years, she no longer works weekends! And Phillip has given up his carraige driving scince his eightieth birthday. Well, the competitive stuff at least.
The newly wed prince is returning to serve with the rescue group in Anglesey as a helicopter pilot. He's done a stint in Afghanistan and was annoyed that his service was cut short when the press leaked too much.
Wikipedia is not a font of fact or knowledge!

Re: Royal Wedding a British Tsunami

RY Brittania was decommissioned some years ago as it no longer served a useful purpose. The Royal Train, which I worked on, has also been scrapped. The Royal Flight still has a couple of modern short haul aircraft which were mainly used by Blair and his family.

Roll your eyes all you like Gord, the word republican has a meaning, in the rest of the world, quite different to simply the name of a north american political party, so yeah by and large a socialist will be a republican in the rest of the world, you know the bit that exists outside the USA and Canada

Dunno if 'Will's' got a boat... but I do know that Princess Anne had a beautiful wooden boat.... damned if I can recall the name tho....
Had a walk round her when it was in Poole and up for sale about 5yrs ago... gorgeous....

A bit (no, quite a lot) of history reading would show how keeping the Monarchy (illogical, contradictory, primeval) served Britain, and the world, well. Like it or not. Long may it last.
A colonial.

The girl in the dress. Be cautious with your comments, she has the power of beheading.

Re: Royal Wedding a British Tsunami

I'll admit that I watched it too. I'm a history buff and this is historical. I was amazed at how much everyone seemed to be waiting for their appearance on the Royal balcony. With all the brouhaha surrounding Kate's appearance I would have at least expected a brass pole on the patio.
