Rio Gets the 2016 Olympics

So what...they never show the sailing events anyhow.

It is just another example of "amateur" athletics (for all intents and purposes they are professionals)

Good luck finding a mooring. We sail out of Chicago and are currently doing a happy dance that the olympics won't be coming here. If Chicago got the bid we would have lost our mooring for years. As it is, the harbors here are run so poorly and we are charged a kings ransom for a slip here. The only thing keeping us is the location. If the olympics were coming they would boot us out for years and then charge us even more when the games finished.

Rio is sweet. Even the chubby ladies are hotties. If I was single I would surely return, but not during the Olympics. If you speak in English you will get gobbled up by hotties........i2f

I'm up in Vancouver and the Olympics haven't changed the moorage here too much. Maybe for the guest marinas… Although it is the winter Olympics here and its not too nice to hang out in the cockpit in Feb. Maybe I should try to rent out my boat as a one bedroom condo with on suite and waterfront.

Yes, we would love to go. The marina isn't big, but maybe they will build more.

I have been and can clearly confirm imagine2frolic's description.

Salvadore, to the north is even better... the whole city is within walking distance of the marina . The funacular is fun... Music moves the people... and how it moves the girls!!!!!

But prettiest place in the world to anchor and bus to Rio would be Arraial do Cabo 22° 58.354'S 42° 1.123'W I see theres a marina there now. Under the large tree on the sand is, well, some boxes to sit on. A cold beer will be slipped into your hand in moments

Don't you believe it! I was in the marina in Rio for a week - its basically right below that big statue of jesus - but we could only see the statue as a hazy outline. The post cards of rio must all have been taken on one day in 1846.

As a sailor, spending 5 months in NZ during the 2000 Americas Cup was much better than the Olympics.

Visiting all the syndicates, getting to know all the preparation techniques that those dedicated teams had developed was incredible.

Then being out on the water watching simultaneously the Reality, the TV coverage and live stream Virtual was a fantastic learning experience.

I have done the Olympics, but I much happier to watch on TV as being in huge crowds within stadiums is not something I am comfortable with.

When the Olympics came to Sydney I was living in Sydney working for NBC (a small American TV outfit, I think) but decided a few days before the games that I wouldn't get to see any of the games working! So I quit!

I rolled down to a ticket shop and said: "Whats available / whats cheap?!
I thought all the ticket would have been already gone and I might find just a $200 ticket to something.

Well the counter person said: all these tickets are $10!!!!
So I got 20 tickets to 20 different sports - most sports I had never seen, some I had never heard of!!! 10 sports were in the Decathlon - LOL

One sport I had never heard of was Handball. I thought it was the game we played at primary school hitting a ball against the wal.... Not so!!! I saw the finals of the Womens Handball Denmark V's Brazil. My $10 tickets were second row!!!!! Boy did I get an eye full!!!!!!!!!!

My Yanmar overheats when i put it in neutral and race it at 4000 rpm for half an hour with the seacock closed. What am I doing wrong?
