If I remember right, a captain as of someone with a captains license can perform a wedding, a marriage license is still needed, and it has to be on the ship they are the captian for, witnesses are reguired too and they need to sign too

If the culture that supports and requires the rules. formalities and regulations necessary for a wedding to be "legal" has crumbled than the person used to formalize a union of two peopel with be alot more informal in their official qualifications.

That rule has been around alot longer than the USCG that issues the captains license...at the very least an "un-licensed" captain can still perform a marriage good for the duration of the voyage (and any one can go on live and become an ordained minister through "Universal Life Church" and be able to perform marriages

Noteries and a lot of others can do so too, most anyone can get the authority to do so, just needs the right paperwork, but if this is teotwawki who cares, and I think I would want some way to make/collect water and large tanks, then fishing gear, then food for some longish time, then guns, just how bad and how long do you expect it to be, and we all would like a heads up just before it happens, as to the nubile virgins, do we have to wait for the end to start getting them or should I start filling the boat with them now, just want to know so when the misses sees them I have something to say.

Yeah, I think guns and ammo high on the list. Except regular ammo is not sustainable unless talking cross/bows.

Semi-serious question:

The OP talks about strapping the engine to the bottom of the keel. Is there any reason why a marine deisel wouldn't run on biodeisel, per se?

Coconuts produce about 300 gallons per hectare per year of biodiesel. But yeah, how are we gonna make biodiesel in a Waterworld environment?

I suppose someone might have a big enough floating something that you could do that algae harvest method, but the process isn't widely known, yet.

Now, now. I don't remember any discussion of VIRGIN breeding stock, just young, nubile breeding stock. Just like with boats, a well-designed, well-maintained second hander is generally much more desirable than a newer one that will experience a hard depreciation curve in the early years
