Popcorn??

G'Day all,

This may seem ingenuous, but I really can't figure it out:

Exactly what do all of you posters who use the "popcorn" emoticon mean to be expressing by including it?

I personally don't use any of them because they seem ambiguous and pretty silly to me, but that one just baffles me.

Anyone take a try at explaining it, please?

Cheers,

Jim

Re: Popcorn??

It means they are just sitting there and enjoying the show.

It implies they're going to sit back and watch the show. I think it's likely an American thing where we can't go to a movie without stuffing popcorn in our faces. I'm as guilty as any.

Re: Popcorn??

Hi Jim! The popcorn emoticon means that "I'm going to sit back and watch what will happen next, as I can't wait!"

Re: Popcorn??

Personally I like these better:

But like everyone else said, it's a simple way of saying they're going to sit back and enjoy the show.

It means different things in different cultures. The US one is about showing you are aware that was has been said will have a predictable effect....and has likely been written for that reason!

The European version is somewhat ruder..........

Re: Popcorn??

I thought it was just the crew on night watch eating their allowed dinner while standing up with their eyes wide open.

We are missing the "bus ride home" emoticon...

I feel the same way! I have used a smile face before but once I used a smile with a tongue out and it turned it into the popcorn face when it posted. Then I was really confused.
