Perseid Meteor Shower

The Perseid meteor shower happens tonight. You can estimate the time of most activity in your region with this handy dandy Fluxtimator.

Home page of the Meteor Shower Flux Estimator (FLUXTIMATOR).

Hopefully we won't have any cloud cover in Houston.

Another astronomical note -
Around twilight tonight (Eastern seaboard USA) the moon should be accompanied by Venus, Mars, and Saturn.

Sorry I'm not getting up at 3AM to see a bunch of rocks fall from the sky.

Regards,

This is fantastic - so I am arranging an overnight cruise next weekend, which is motivation to get the chainplate fixed!!!

Thank you for the link - I'd never have known otherwise!

This time of year, we've got thick fog by early AM thanks to the Straits of Juan de Fuca.

I don't even need to get out of bed to know if it's foggy.
I just listen for the horns of passing traffic.

I went out at 4:45 am (0845 UTC), which was a bit before the predicted time of max sightings. Only saw five before the sun lit up the sky too much, and two were going the wrong way, so I don't think they were Perseids. A little disappointing, but as a bonus, I also saw a couple of satellites traverse the sky, and managed to see Jupiter with an orange band and it's four Galilean moons with my 60x spotter scope. Altogether worth getting up a little early.

I'm stuck next to Toronto, so probably wont see much. Too much light pollution.
