Around twilight tonight (Eastern seaboard USA) the moon should be accompanied by Venus, Mars, and Saturn.

This time of year, we've got thick fog by early AM thanks to the Straits of Juan de Fuca.

I don't even need to get out of bed to know if it's foggy.
I just listen for the horns of passing traffic.

Darn, we have the tropical depression passing over tonight. LOL Somebody take some pics for this shower challenged person. No, I take showers! Not those kinds of pics! meteor shower pics, yeesh. LOL

I went out at 4:45 am (0845 UTC), which was a bit before the predicted time of max sightings. Only saw five before the sun lit up the sky too much, and two were going the wrong way, so I don't think they were Perseids. A little disappointing, but as a bonus, I also saw a couple of satellites traverse the sky, and managed to see Jupiter with an orange band and it's four Galilean moons with my 60x spotter scope. Altogether worth getting up a little early.
