Re: One Very Lucky MOB

That's really amazing, someone must have reported her missing. It must have been a very long 10 hrs. for her.

I figure she was seen going overboard.
Wonder if the cruise ship stopped and searched or kept going?

They could easily ping the GPS coordinates stop and send a liferboat out to look, Very doubtful that they stop and looked though, The cruise companys would rather litigate a death than stop one of thier ships or cause any disruption.

Re: One Very Lucky MOB

Reported missing 10(?) hours after falling overboard about 60 miles off the coast of Croatia ....

Probably only missed after the ship tied up in Venice and she didn't turn up for breakfast.....

They - the rescuers - would have the benefit of the ship's track to a high degree of accuracy tanks to GPS, data logging etc etc......

I reckon this fellow, falling from a ship doing more than 20 knots in pre GPS days , was somewhat luckier....

Re: One Very Lucky MOB

I think she spent 10 hours in the water, not was reported missing after 10 hours.
Many years ago in school I attended a speech given to us by a former Hanoi Hilton guest.
He said they had a contest a high and fast and a low and slow as to who ejected the lowest to the ground and highest.
The person who won the lowest was one of the very few enlisted personnel, he was a Navy man and fell off the back of his ship emptying garbage

Yep, no real information at this stage as to when she was noticed missing.
However she reports she fell "of the back shortly before midnight".

Well... the ship arrived in Venice 5 hours late so that would suggest she spent some time searching.... as did aircraft and 3 other merchant ships....

Exact time of her falling in was established from CCTV so it would seem some time elapsed between fall and alarm...
