Re: Nautical Oddities
Here's a little contribution from guana in the Bahamas:
The subject of the photo is the jet ski with the outboard on it. Makes her sink a little low but I couldn't help but admire the mounting job.

I have ridden one of these in Cuba. It was a rental if you can believe that, different perception of liability I guess.

Re: Nautical Oddities
How did it ride? Anything at all similar to a regular jet ski? As a kid, we used to constantly flood those the engines on the wave runners at half moon bay in Saudi. Seemed to have nothing but engine problems, but some operators I talked to in the keys confirmed that the design has come a long way. Still, maybe an outboard conversion isn't a bad idea?

Re: Nautical Oddities
It had a 25 HP engine, so it was extremely gutless when compared to a real sea doo. It also sat lower in the water because of the extra weight. Which made me afraid of the alligators.

Re: Nautical Oddities
I don't think so. I'm not even sure there were alligators or if the guide was just messing with me.

Re: Nautical Oddities
If true, that makes it way cooler! It's back end sat awfully low in the water for a designed-in outboard install though. But those Google pictures make it look like these are supposed to be ridden on a 40 degree incline!

A lot of them were made for small outboards. like maybe 10-20hp. So if you wanted to go faster what would you do? Yep. overload it.
An ancient 25hp might weigh as much as a modern 40. Think how much fun you could have with a repower.

Darn! I just returned from the Bahamas - the land of inexpensive, lightweight 2-strokes!

Re: Nautical Oddities
That would make a great dinghy for this ugly duckling.
