Naked Sailboat

It was a sad day for me the other day. Boat at the dock, taking the sails and canvas off (the naked part), while it was 68 degress out. Just seems all wrong and salt into the wound of putting the boat in storage. Would have gone out for a few hours if I hadn't laid up the engine the day before.

My plans for the weekend are to get the boat ready to haul and then get her out. The upside is we may have a sail tomorrow.

Sticks were pulled today. We're heading for the river, and lay-up on Sunday. Highs in the low 40's but at least the wind will be at our backs this time.

Bummer guys! I am going to be putting my boat back IN the water for the first time since she came out for post IKE repairs last January. I finally got a slip at a marina I think I am going to like. Protected, floating docks, and 5 minutes from the bay. Double what we were paying at the as yet to be(not even a look yet) rebuilt Bayland Park Marina in Baytown Texas. Shame on you Baytown.........m

My sympathies Gentlemen,

I shall not rub it in either, but I remember a long time back when I helped a friend do the same (Northern Europe) and it was a sad event.

I shall think of you as I have a sundowner this weekend and raise my glass to the north

But why? If it's 68 degrees out? I don't understand. Just
because the calendar says something hackneyed?

My boat is in the water, with her sails on, although she's at a latitude somewhere even with Newfoundland, and the last time I went sailing (10 days ago) it was about 45 degrees out. You know, it's amazing how comfortable you can be in cold, wet weather with appropriate polypropelene and Gore-Tex clothing.

I figure -- we spend the whole day outside on ski slopes and feel perfectly happy -- we dress for it. Why not the same thing sailing, in winter?

Aah, it's not the air temperature, it's when the water turns to a solid.

Sailing in the 30's and 40's is not a biggie. But the weather windows get pretty tight at the end of the year here.

Oh, Christ. I apologize, and withdraw my comments.

Here on the South Coast of England, although we are far north of you, the sea does not turn solid, never never ever, and one can sail year round, given an adequate inventory of Gore-Tex foulies.

I hauled out not too long ago from my first season out. I really would love to stay in but since I'm on a small cat (A wet butt boat) The water temp is pretty noticable in northern Michigan.

Sad day for sure. We live in the Great White North, so the season is very short, 18 weeks.

My son was whining the other day about his Grady Sailfish being laid up for the winter in St Joseph, Michigan. My answer was, "Move back to Texas and bring my Grandson"

He had a good answer, I would but the money is too good here. That is that I guess. He fishes a freshwater Ocean, Lake Michigan, mostly for Salmon.

Sailed them as a kid on Lake Geneva (Wisconsin). I'm still working on the wife to let me build one. She's not convinced of their safety
