My Boat Is A . . . .

On another thread there was some sensitivity about how the Westsail is referred to as a Westsnail... This thread may go south quick but what nicknames have you heard for your boat model?

My boat is a Maxi 77 and of course gets referred to as a maxipad

Maxi = Maxipad
Westsail = Westsnail
Benneteau = Bendytoy

Island Packet = Island Piglet

Benneteau + Hunter + Catalina = BenneHuntaLina
(that's what my wife calls them because she doesn't distinguish one from the other)

Just remembered

My boat (42 years young ) would qualify as a MAB (Manky Auld Boat ).....albeit originally referred to leaky old wooden boats.

Anything modern (last 25 years ) is an AWB (All White Boat / Blob).....i.e. non-descript, characterless and all look the same.............like a JenBenBav .

The Sundeers are normally called submarine or destroyer but some old farts that praise clipper bows and such can't get beyond a stuttering "contraption" when asked to describe them

It is also often called to be "cheating" when confronted with performance.

I love it

ciao!
Nick.

I used to own a Javelin 30, crew called it 'The Submarine' because it was so wet. Beautiful boat but that fine bow just cut straight into the waves.

We thrive on board our Morgan Out House 41.
Close friends have a C&C Landfill.
Some call the Bayliners, Bay Liners.

Re: My boat is a....

We have an Allegro. The submarine. The shooter.

Many people look at our boat and then I hear from others the comment was she looks like a 'submarine'. I think the comment is adequate.

I myself often call the boat 'the shooter'. That's because in NZ a friend of ours asked if we came all the way in 'this little shooter'. Perhaps he did not say 'shooter', but you know the way kiwis pronounce ...

BTW she has black topsides and YES, YES; YES ... I know what Herreshoff said about them two colors ... ;-)))

Cheers,
b.

Re: My boat is a....

Most of these nicknames are derogatory, so it goes against my instinct to use them when I'm such a boat-aholic who loves anything that gets me out enjoying the water. But nonetheless...

Cheoy Lee = "Cheoy Leaky"
Motor Sailer = "Motor Snailer"
Sailboats = "Blow Boats", "Rag Baggers"
Powerboats = "Stink Pots"
