Critical government related matters needing immediate attention only happen late in the day on Fridays, leaving you in violation until Monday at the earliest.

Corollary: Monday is a holiday.

Everything object, when brought aboard, assumes exactly 50% of the structural integrity it had on shore.

Please do not ask me how I know
AND, if you do happen to remember your reading glasses the confines of the space you're in will place your eyes closer or farther than the point of focus of the glasses you brought so you still can't see the part you're working on.

OR, the confines of the space will force you to hold your head at an awkward angle that causes the glasses to slide off your nose preventing the glasses from staying between your eyes and the work area.

You can guess how I know this.

Or as you begin to sweat from the heat, the glasses slowly slide further and further down your nose until they fall off - you can't use your hand to stop them because at that exact moment you will be holding a part in one hand and a tool in the other.

The glasses, of course will fall down to a place where you cannot reach them

Re: Murphy's Marine Laws

Things which must be shipped together as a set ... aren't.
Interchangeable parts ... aren't.
Leakproof seals ... will.

After the last of 16 mounting screws has been removed from an access cover, it will be discovered that the wrong access cover has been removed.
After an access cover has been secured by 16 hold-down screws, it will be discovered that the gasket has been omitted.

All screws will undo easily. Except for the last one.

Whatever the course that's where the wind is coming from.

"Wind Shift" happens when you try to turn down wind.

Murphy's Law of GRIB files: If below 15 knots subtract 5 knots. If above 15 knots add 5 knots.

Now this I can attest to, my Wife has even suggested we rename the boat to weather maker or something similar as it seems to have the unique ability to shift the wind direction.
But maybe I should name her Thunderstorm magnet, as it seems to have that talent as well.
Best use of the Radar is I can now watch the storms track me, I feel like a quail with a hunting dog on the loose.

Re: Murphy's Marine Laws

When you discover you are short one bit... a crimp connector, a screw... the store is closed!

all loose lines develop knots on their own with no help...

This thread is hysterical

Re: Murphy's Marine Laws

Murphy's* Corollaries:

Murphy's Law may be delayed or suspended for an indefinite period of time, provided that such delay or suspension will result in a greater catastrophe at a later date.

If two corollaries of Murphy's Law contradict each other, the one with greater potential for damage takes precedence.

* BTW: Murphy's law was not actually propounded by Murphy, but by another man of the same name.

May's Law:
There's never time to do it right, but always time to do it over.

Re: Murphy's Marine Laws

When anchored, the swell will always come perpendicular to the wind.

If you don't put out your flopper stoppers because it's so calm in the anchorage, the boat rolling at 3am will wake you up.

Re: Murphy's Marine Laws

You are cetainly to strip the head of the last screw you need to get out to remove somthing.

Corollary - you will strip the head of the last screw you are driving in just before it reaches bottom.

Corollary 2 - your SO will tell you in no uncertainly terms that you need to stop swearing at inanimate objects

In the marine environment Murphy's Law: Anything that can go wrong... is in fact superceded by O'Toole's Law which states:

Murphy was a bloody optimist!
