Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from Ice-Covered Water

I wish you all Merry Christmas and a happy New Year. I am sure, 2011 will be a good one.

We have got winter along the German Baltic Sea coast.
Although the ice is thick enough on our inner water ice sailing is actually not possible. The snow is too high to be managed. The sledge is rather made for sailing at only few snow patches or thin snow. I saw some guys Kitesurving on the flooded, frozen and snow covered marsh.

So what to do? Snow moving around the house and waiting for better days. We will see what the next two months will bring.

Have fun

Looking at some of the news feeds on TV you and most of northern europe are being hammered. Thankfully here is quite different and in three day will be further improved setting sail from Curacao. However I like hot spicy wine so will think of you fondly so....Frohe Weihnachten und ein glückliches neues JahrFrohe Weihnachten und ein glückliches neues Jahr.

Thank you guys.
Christmas is gone for this year, the snow not.
We check the ice thickness. Just 12-15 cm. The snow on top is the best isolation to block the icegrowing. Not much increase over the recent days.
Anyhow, the winter is young and we are looking forward to better days.

He he, first job for 2011 was to go down to the boat and chisel out all the rainwater that leaked into the bilge and froze. We had a two day thaw so I waited til Jan 01. The ice block was floating with half an inch of water all around. Damn that is cold to lift out without gloves on. But it got done, the leaks in the tarp are patched and hopefully we won't have much more.

Iceboating? that would be such a rush!

Happy New Year everyone.
