Meet the Queens

We had two visitors to Sydney Harbour this weekend.

The Queen Victoria II came for the first time, and the Queen Elizabeth II came for the last time.

Boracay,
Did the government check the bottom of the vessels to see if it was carrying non resident shellfish? I heard s/v have a hard time entering Aussie waters.

A truly magnificent sight.
I joined the many thousands at Circular Quay today for a glorious Sydney summer day.

Great photo Mark but unfortunately, you can see where the accountants have taken over ship design these days, The old girl looks beautiful!

Oh Pelagic

How true that is.

Modern cruise ships are designed by accountants who's idea of beauty is a balance sheet.

I think the QE2 is probably the last of the "proper" ships, that look like ships.

Here she is leaving the River Tyne on a dirty afternoon.

That's the first thing that struck me, how much more elegant the older ship looks. The new one looks pretty much like your typical Carnival Cruise ship. If you look closely you can see Kathy Lee Gifford singing away on the veranda deck.

I got to see the Queen Mary 2 in San Francisco Bay a few months ago. That's an elegant looking modern cruise ship.

The Queen Mary 2 during seatrials in September 2003.
