McHale's Navy and Other Top Shelf Retro Nautical TV Series

So when I moved out of my apartment 2 months ago and started living aboard, I discontinued my cable television service and plugged my digital antenna tuner into my 12" tube aboard my little Cal. Much to my delight, I've been enjoying all kinds of old tv shows, many of which are nautical themed. It seems this kind of television programming was much more popular in the days gone by.

I love watching these blasts from the past, brings back fond memories from my childhood. My favorite of these is McHales Navy. Anybody else out there enjoy these old programs? Which others should I be watching?

ialways found bullwinkle and rocky to be fairly good assessments of reality.....allong with mash and wil e coyote and roadrunner..
regular tv is a little too programmed for my tastes....oh yes--and weeds--awesome series along with dead like me.
not nautical, but fun.

oh yes and gilligans island.....

Thank you for reminding me of rocky and bullwinkle! I'm going to download the whole series before my next offshore passage. I love mash, especially the movie. wil e coyote and roadrunner has a special place in my heart, to this day I have never seen my dad laugh harder at anything than he did at that show. I'm talking about an old man loosing his sh*t at an old Merry Melodies cartoon. Brilliant! My very first memory of watching television was Gilligan's Island

Never liked the animation on Rocky and Bullwinkle, so I couldn't get into it. But the quality of the writing, animation and just overall talent that went into the Warner Bros cartoons during the "Golden age of Animation" has never been equaled. Mel Blanc was in a league all his own. You can still watch them today and pick up nuances and cultural references that you missed the first 100 times.

I agree CaptTom. I seem to enjoy the old Warner Bros cartoons more the older I get.

James A. Mitchners "Adventures in Paradise" from the late 50's/early 60's. Looked to be filmed in Tahaiti.........Great show.....Also, "Sea Hunt" starring Lloyd Bridges as Mike Nelson. "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea" starring David Hedison. And who can forget "Flipper".

That's perfect D.D., thanks so much. "Adventures in Paradise", "Sea Hunt", and "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea" are all in my download queue now. I was wondering when some one was going to mention flipper. I haven't seen that show in at least 20 years. I still remember the episode where they get caught in a hurricane, then the eye of the storm passes over them and everything gets calm again. That's how I learned that hurricanes have eyes.

Mary Ann of course. Ginger was just too flighty. Mary Ann down to earth. I could picture Mary Ann trimming sails. Ginger would just hang out on the fore-deck playing eye candy.
