Its amazing that the toilets in Effeses were built a few thousand years ago by the Greeks or the Romans - I guess the Romans - But in the rest of Turkey, except for the tourist areas, they still use squat toilets that can't handle toilet paper.

The marble Mulit-Seater in the photo is just 1/3 of the thunderboxes in this this room. Just imagine one of those at a marina! No need for a morning VHF net, just rock up to the dunny.

Someone says:
Quote:
The latrines were part of the Scholastica Baths and built in the 1st century AD. They were the public toilets of the city where citizens were charged an entrance fee to use them.

In the centre, there is an uncovered pool and the toilets are aligned along the walls. The columns surrounding the pool supported a wooden ceiling. There was a drainage system under the toilets which is really far down! In front of the toilets is a drainage system. This was used in order for the users to dip their sponge (which was on a stick) into the water channel in front of them so as to wipe their behind! We have a phrase in Britain about grabbing the wrong end of the stick which comes from this very scene!

We have one about being on the short end of the stick....too close to the "behind" perhaps.

Who said history couldn't be fun..

Well the couple allegedly posing as Mark and Nicolle on this forum do exist. Although as I look back , it was strange how they arrived at Changi by taxi claiming something about SeaLife being at a "free" marina in Malaysia.

Duh - How could I be so dumb. Free marina? That should have been my tip off.

They were enthralled by simple things like Doritos and ice cream and had an unusually high interest in Karaoke. Almost like they had not been in civilization for a few years.

Aussie accents? Maybe they are escaped convicts?

I think she's doing all the work. Isn't it almost your turn to do dishes, Mark?
