Anyone else remember us being over 2000?

Of course its totally possible I am imagining things as well ; -)
I remember seeing the number above 1900 users then another time I notice it, it's back down to 1600+ so somewhere it changes.

Oh, I didn't know the game was to pile onto Jedi... Are we using the 1990 BBS or 1995 USENET league rules? It's out of bounds to resurrect threads older than 24 hours, right? Is selective quoting to make a straw man good sportsmanship, or are we in a higher division? Is a point scored if he responds directly to you, or if he leaves?

Seriously, I'm happy to read and learn from other people here. Thank you everyone who contributes.

It's just that from my PoV evolution of the human species has stopped and needs to be helped a bit. Too many people just consume whatever is served to them while others fight any change in technology or culture. For much we will need the new generations but there's a lot left that will make our sailing lives better if we accept it. Internet and other data networks, and the culture around it in particular is one of my interests because I was one of the builders of the Internet. I actually wrote specifications for an update to the NNTP protocol which is used for Usenet (the newsgroups) that predated forums like this one

ciao!
Nick.

I'm glad I'm not that old.

Like I would have absolutely NO idea why someone would take a magic marker and draw a diagonal line across a deck of punch cards.

Aww come on, lay off Jedi, his brainchild is actively used today for pornography and piracy.

Which is definitely a step up from flame wars on alt.sci.physics.

Re: Looks Like We Set a Record Today !

Now hold on, I never programmed a punch card I could have but refused, called it obsolete and ancient and all my usual rhetoric

But teletypes were great! both terminal and printer in one device

ciao!
Nick.

Jedi, dont worry age ie relative BUT if you were a boat you would have a wooden hull because you were conceved before FG, a long keel, a barn door rudder, hemp rode with a fishermans anchor and no electronics.
