Agreed. I wanted to have the lock on the inside, but instead of changing things around to do that, I have break out windows. It was more simple that way. There are quite a few modes of exit.

Well Sean, I do sleep naked, and I HAVE been known to pop on deck in the freezing cold. I figure the sight of that alone is enough to deter the average low life. Picture 250 pounds of hairy naked maniac standing out in the snow screaming what do you want! In fact, in my trucking days, there were a couple of occasions I had to get out of the truck to deal with a situation. Putting on clothes was not high on the priority list. Ah well, you just need to write a book. You certainly have more adventures than most

It happens on boats too. We were on a mooring at Nelson Bay, sound asleep, when footsteps on the deck woke me. I went out the companionway (starkers) and saw someone at the dinghy davits trying to figure out how to lower it. I grabbed him by the throat and pushed him against the pushpit, with the intention of hitting him as hard as I could, when the thought hit me - if I knock him out, and he drowns, I'll be up for murder. So I just shoved him overboard. He did cop some damage from the dinghy propellor on the way down though.

If you are hunting squirrels you go to the forest because it's where the nuts are. The forest in this case would be the "park and ride". I'm just not clear why you would chase someone with a loaded RV instead of a shot gun? Sorting out the squirrels and nuts part of this analogy is causing some confusion.

Hiding an RV in a park and ride lot just seems to be asking for problems Sean. As you see now, it attracts the wrong type of people. You seem to be saying "rob me now or later". Maybe if you uglied up the outside of the RV a bit it might it might convey a "we got nothing here" message.

You need a new anchorage. This one seems a bit foul.

Well, mostly I posted this for everyone's entertainment. (as KaiNui's post was also very entertaing!!) It was a strange experience... one you don't see every day. It was slightly related to sailing in that I didn't experience this overt of an attempt on my boat while living aboard, or while working on megayachts.

To answer your question, Paul:

I wouldn't chase a guy with a shotgun because as a gun owner you have to be *responsible*. Once you choose to have a weapon, it must be used with the utmost care. Once the weapon is taken out, the situation escalates dramatically. You should do all you can before you are backed into the corner of pulling out a gun. It's not something to take lightly and is not something I would use to chase away a hooligan like this kid was. He certainly wasn't a threat to my life, which is the only occasion I would ever break out the gun for. Simply put: It's not a toy.

Sorry for the passionate response, but I feel very strongly about that stuff.

Yes... the Park & Ride is not a great spot to park. It seemed great, but of course this guy found it to be great too - as a target for theft. I'm assuming he usually breaks into cars and steals the radios and stuff.

We won't be using that anchorage anymore.

Found out what the guy was doing today!

I had thought I hit a snowbank or something and wrecked my exhaust.

As it turns out, the guy was hacksawing my catalytic converter off, probably to support his crystal meth or heroin additiction.

Guess how much it costs to fix them?

$1400.

Still cheaper than a boat repair I guess, but wow... I do wish I was able to get a hold of him and beat the living *$$(*&# out of him that night.

Just to add to the mental picture this generates, keep in mind that 44cc is, as he revealed on the Fusion 40 thread, 6'8" ! ! !
