Re: Last sailing weekend

at least you get another week to sail, my haulout is tomorrow Saturday. So I spent the day cleaning and getting ready for lift out.
I am doing a major interior refit over the winter so that is the brighter side of making it for the next 6 months/

Re: Last sailing weekend

I know, and don't get me wrong I am looking forward to sailing this weekend. Being from Ontario I know you feel my pain, good luck with your interior refit. Ours will be shrink wrapped soon so no projects till spring for us.

Re: Last Sailing Weekend

Sailing south is in the works, that's what part of the refit is for, were in our 8 year plan as our 10 yr old will be in collage and we can begin to break away at that point starting 6 months back and forth type of deal.
so envy is the name of the dish being served tonight

Being on Lake Ontario I guess you HAVE to get out. I have seen 20' walls of Ice blown up on the shore near Cleavland.

Re: Last Sailing Weekend

We just fake-a-laked the air conditioning condenser, flushed the generator and washed the linen, cleaned the boat inside and out,, rolled out the 40' cover with the help of the kids,, secured and mothballed the Pandora until spring.

Sits on a gigantic trailer next to our home.

It was a great boating year.

Time to roll out the off-road toys.

Re: Last Sailing Weekend

I've still got a few weeks left on board. Though every year I keep thinking about heading south but, not this year. I actually kind of like stepping away from the boat for a few months, It gets me chomping at the bit to get back on water in the spring. Another reason is most of the projects I thought I'd get to during the season were never started let alone finished. The winter time gives me a good excuse to get on board and "do what needs to be done". It also helps that my girlfreind always needs her winter vacations and that usually means a crewed chartered catamaran someplace warm. To get along go along I say! So I've already sailed in most of the places I would have bought my boat to already. So I don't feel I'm missing out too much. Remember the winter will pass soon enough and you will once again hear the call of the water.

Re: Last Sailing Weekend

This was a bust of a sailing season for multiple reasons... main being crappy weather... no wind. And then there was Irene which came buy in the beginning of our cruise to ME and that put the kabosh on that. Add that to a late start... and a lovely close mooring location but not interesting cruising destinations for a weekend and it all added up to a being a very expensive *home on the water".... not that that's all that bad...(3 thats!).

I am going to return to better cruising grounds for the mooring location as I would rather endure traffic than light winds, power boat wakes, lots of tows of huge barges to deal with. Then I am going to try to get an early start... and pray to the weather gods for some decent breeze for 2012.

If you have the time, money, boat and crew to get there, the Caribe is the place to be for the winter... Not in my cards...

I end my season at the end of October... and am off to the boat for a weekend of 5 knots and clear skies... perfect for fishing. hahaha

Our future plans entail heading south one day too. We have some work to do to get to that point though. A vacation in the Virgin Islands sounds nice. We have back to back weddings though, dang children. On the up side, the house needs about 6 months of cleaning... wait a minute is that a plus?

You don't have to cut grass all winter, thats a plus. But then I don't have to shovel snow any more, just cut grass.

Omg, we had the best sailing today. 15 to 23 kts of warm south wind. We're talking 84 degrees warm. That's crazy warm for MN in Oct. Two years ago we sailed in snow showers at this time. Lovin it! Add spectacular fall colors, wow. Life don't get no better.

Re: Last Sailing Weekend

Light winds on the Northern Chesapeake, I have a few weekends left. It was 70F today and looks warmer for tomorrow.
