Re: Keel Haul, or Keel Walk?

The bloke who designed that boat, Juan Kouyoumdjian, said a few years back that canting keel monos were just inefficient multis, and that video sort of proves his point.

Here is what he actually said:
Quote:
"What is future of canting-ballast technology?" Juan Kouyoumdjian: "It depends on acceptance. I could argue that a canting-keel monohull is a very inefficient multihull. Imagine canting a keel to leeward and instead of ballast you have air. You would achieve the same increase in righting moment in a ligter solution and in fact you get a multihull. Our sailing community is divided, and choices are made on style or fashion; otherwise we'd all be sailing multihulls."

Maybe, but those boats go like a bat out of hell. If they ever get the breaking keel thing sorted out they will continue to improve their average speed around the globe.

When you sail on half a catamaran, you need lots of ballast. In this case you need fancy ballast.

Or you could just go ahead and get a full catamaran and ditch the ballast.
