Re: Jury duty?

I comply without much of a burden if I happen to be in the area. If I'm away from my home port, which has been most of the time in recent years, I inform the clerk of the court of my location. I've never had any difficulties with this.

Re: Jury duty?

Not that I would show up for jury duty while cruising BUT I think that every one should have to be a juror on a murder trial once in there life like myself to experience the emotions as a juror not a spectator watching TV to be deadlocked told by the judge to get over your differences and make a decision and then after walking out of the courthouse have the burden of knowing that there was juror misconduct ! Damn why did he tell me? But I think the decision was the right one

Yup. Everybody likes to bitch about frivolous lawsuits, and people getting money for spilling their coffee in their lap, etc., but nobody wants to serve on a jury, where they could make a difference.

Re: Jury duty?

My daughter just received a jury summons at my house. She's currently deployed on a destroyer in the Middle East. I called them to let them know she won't be there; they must not have believed me, they refused to excuse her.
Gonna have USN legal give them a call next.

Jury duty?

I was called by Green Cove Spring while cruising. I explained that we were in Ft L on the boat and could come back and and serve. They were very nice, said no need, and tossed me back in the queue. I've been through V/D before (not chosen) and agree, serving is a duty of citizenship.

Be careful what you wish for - if you get called and end up serving in a patent case that lasts for 8 months....

Re: Jury duty?

I had the privilege of serving on a jury when I was much younger, and it is part of a citizen's civic duty, while it gets joked about a lot, (being tried by 12 people who couldn't think of a good enough excuse not to be on jury duty). It is important if possible to be there. The jury I sat on would have convicted an innocent man if it hadn't been for me and one other juror that stuck to our guns. A word to the wise, never trust your life to a court appointed lawyer.
