International package shipping

I need to ship a holding tank to Greece. I have checked all the usual methods and the prices are in accord with taking the thing as luggage and flying over there myself. That is not a bad idea, but I don't want to go to Greece in the winter (Caribbean is a better choice). Believe it or not, the lowest price I could find was from the U.S. Post Office.
Any ideas?

It is 4' X 2' X 9" and weighs 55 lbs. It is about the size of a large suitcase. A reasonable price should be somewhere in the area of $125. I can ship the same package to Fairbanks, AK for that price via the post office. Greece can't be much further if at all.

Are you also factoring in VAT and any import duty to your calculations? Cos if you are using a shipping agent the package and paperwork will get processed through customs. Of course if the item was secondhand it would be cheaper, and with it being a holding tank it may avoid close inspection!...but would probably easily be spotted as being used or not!

By regular mail is how folk tend to get items into the EU "without too much paperwork" on the basis that any taxes claimed ( ! ) get paid on arrival and nothing gets declared in advance........it is a lottery on a bill being payable.
