Insurance needed to transit canal?

I am making a trip from Florida to Ecuador, and so will be transiting the Panama canal. I have made the transit before with another boat but I don´t remember if they require me to have insurance on my boat. Anyone out there know?
Gracias

Canal Insurance

They didn't require proof of insurance last year when I went through. They require you to hold them harmless from anything they do and require a deposit in case you damage the canal (I am not kidding), but they never asked to see my insurance.
