A fish like that you could put a hook in the water with a sign on it that said "DON'T BITE HERE" in bright pink coated with gasoline and you'd haul it.

I've seen it in the Gulf of California and also the Inland Passage in the Alaska panhandle.

Yah, I actually first saw it on Bumfuzzle's page when they were heading from South America to the Pacific Islands.. They apparently stopped for a while and jumped out to swim!! Personally, it is really cool to see, but to imagine it happening in the middle of a huge and deep ocean is somewhat unsettling?!?! Just spooky but cool at the same time!!

One of 4 big mahi mahi (dorado, dolphin fish) they followed us for days and I couldnt catch one! I lasmented this in some thread about fishing. We are hopeless fishermen and this dorado is actually laughing at me!

Been there only in the Bay of Biscay which normally has the opposite reputation. The cruise ship Camberra was on a reciprocal bearing and had to alter course to go around us (yes that dates it a bit).

Skipper decided we were all a bit smelly so everyone went for a swim, bit spooky when we checked the chart to see the depth measured in thousands of feet as we were off the continental shelf.

When I learned the meaning of "mahi mahi" (literally "fish fish" in Arabic), the seafood section of the grocery store struck me as quite funny.

I have seen it frequently in the dog days of summer ,when I ran a fishing boat on the gulf of mexico .
You could spray water from the washdown hose ,the fish would come up ,then you could almost choose the fish you wanted.
It was hot as h#ll ,but it made the trip interesting .
You could see the silhouette of the wreck or structure below the water was so clear . [100' or so]
Not good for sailing though . lol

We motored in those conditions one year from Tortola to Nasau in the Bahamas one year in May. We had to stop before we got to Florida but probaly would have made it if we had tried.
