Re: Heelp with advise !!!

forget the training.......what you need is some time on the water. Of course i say that not knowing where you're departing from.
From the US there is no certification or training required, some people find it helpful to take formal sailing classes though such as ASA101.....etc. As far as I'm aware some european nations require you to have a certificate of compentance.

Re: Heelp with advise !!!

You clearly need a Multihull - I suggest a catamaran.

Training? Nah, that is old school - just flick through the brochure.

Catamarans can do everything. and 110% safely with no thought required........Just write a large cheque to your nearest salesman and he will send you off in a cloud of warm smoke. When you run out of warm smoke you can refill in the Multihulls sub-forum here on CF.

or, like DOJ, you can own a monohull and have no need of such smoke, having been imbued with all knowledge from the outset

Re: Heelp with advise !!!

Have you ever been sailing?

Not to say what you want to do is impossible, but probability is not on your side if you need to learn to sail first. If you're really gung ho, try to find a crew position.

Boat rentals normally don't extend beyond a few days in a confined area, when crossing the pond it's usually called a delivery.

If you want to skipper across the Atlantic, just buy a boat and go for it. If you survive then you can write one of those really smarmy and entertaining books about how one doesn't need to know how to sail to cross the Atlantic. If you just want to cross the Atlantic on a sailboat then you can either pay to crew or crew o n a boat for free.

What are you looking for?
