I've never met a sailor that says he owns too many boats...

Many thanks for your help!

Get him a Delorme InReach satellite text device, he can stay in touch with you from anywhere on the planet! Plus, it has an EPIRB (emergency beacon) function if he gets into serious bad trouble outside of cell phone range.

Marine Watch + GPS Navigator | Garmin quatix.

And if that's too expensive, get him this instead so he can track his speed because every sailor wants to go faster:

SpeedPuck - Velocitek

Then, simplest, if he races a Ronstan Clear Watch will give him count downs for the starting line:

CLEARSTART Sailing Watches and Race Timer | Ronstan Sailboat Hardware World

I kid...

These two are my vote for best present pickers!

Re: help me!

Some ideas- new inflatable PFD with integrated harness (Mustang or Spinlock) Mustang HIT Inflatable Life Jacket / PFD with Harness be sure to get the Mustang Leg Strap Accessory these ensure the life jacket does no slip off!

A new two-lead tether such as Kong ISAF Safety Harness Tethers. I prefer the Kong because they are easier to clip and unclip.

Finally, the no financial cost one that he will appreciate. Invariably, his racing schedule will conflict with what you would like to do. So issue, no less than, five certificates that state, "Royal Pardon, The bearer of this certificate is excused from being tardy to a date, may dismiss an event I wish to go to--- if the bearer uses the time to race." Optional wording such as "The issuer will not complain, whine or otherwise protest the use of this document." My wife gave me something similar when the children were much younger, and it was a delightful surprise.

Hope this helps

Just saw Happy MD post +1 for either an ACR Epirb or the less expensive ACR PLB.

Re: help me!

If you're looking for something suitable for his dinghy sailing I wouldn't get an inflatable life jacket. Once you have capsized or had a big enough wave wash over you they inflate to a size making the rest of your time out sailing or racing a real pain.
