I think it normally ends up with boathook to the head, then wrapping them in a sail, some chain and the use of your least valuable anchor.

My wife and I got divorced during our first 5 week trip, luckily we got married twice since some of the relatives showed up late and they wanted to see the ceremony so we still got one left.
I highly recommend doing it twice to the same woman, the second time around is much easier and the extra marriage might come in handy

We got married in the islands. Being married at sea to be legal has to be recorded on land in a real country that keeps records. British and US law agree on that point. After that it's what ever works. Captains can mary people at sea but they are not legal any place I know of after you get to shore. Some short marriages work better that way.

I married my second wife aboard my second sailboat. I would send you some pictures but I burned them all after the divorce. I'm on my 4th boat now...

Japp got Married under own sails
Hi !
Me and My Wife Kerstin got married on the Swedish West coast while sailing by the Mayor of a city called Strömstad.
It was a fantastic day and since I at that time was a fighterpilot with the Swedish Airforce two Fighters showed up just after the ceremony giving us an airshow even I will never forget.
Since I wanted to be under sail during the ceremony to really start of on the right foot ( beeing the undisputed Captain) I must now this many years later admit that I was not totally focused on navigation and we were lucky to pass some submerged rocks by just a 100 yards...
We had two of our oldest friens onboard as Witnesses and the sailed on with us for a fantastic week cruising the beautiful archipelago North of Gothenbourg.
We are still married and Kerstin has had to put up with this boat crazy fellow that has been rebuilding one yacht for 16 years and has one more Yacht laying on Sardinia in the Med..
I can fully recommend the procedure!!
Rgds
Kristian

Sadly - we wanted to get married (civil partnership) on Roaring Girl but couldn't as in the UK you have to have the venue licensed (as well as the celebrant), and this costs lots of money and brings in the dreaded health and safety.
We had a cracking party on board the night before though with about 35 people, dressed the boat overall and so on , so she took part even if she couldn't host the ceremony.

I think it costs 2500k to get the venue licence and probably subject to a H&S and fire dept survey, plus insurance etc.
I think a palm fringed golden beach with clear sky and turquoise water is the ultimate place.
And then I woke up.

My Wife and I were married on a 70' Top Sail Schooner out of Key West. It turned out to be a party interrupted by a wedding ceremony.

We didn't own a suitable boat at the time, so went with a beach ceremony (barefoot, of course).
Not the greatest pic of us, but it does show the surroundings well:
