I get what you are saying and I guess the preppers (this is how it is spelled - it is a new word) and in a lot you are right. I think because you are using the ones depicted on TV as the examples. I think they are the retarded, idiot ones. like the one that was getting things ready in case he had to do a Cesarian Section on his wife. No surgical experience yet he was on TV. He had one 4-0 Monocryl suture to show. That is for a "plastic" skin closure. No suction machine etc., etc. This is planning for a specific, known, possible event............but the guy is an idiot and his wife was standing right next to him.
I think there are a lot of degrees to this as many have said. The original post was a stocked boat to get away from a land based "bug" pandemic. Since pandemics always look like a bell-curve, if one could avoid the bell it might be a good thing. I mentioned hove to a long way out. Most water makers and solar panels, batteries etc last for years and years.
Reading here might make one think that all the stuff breaks all the time but that is like watching the nooze about looting.
I had the pleasure of meeting a world cruiser that is popular here on CF and that is what he said. And he has seen a bit. I have mostly researched.
Back to the preppers again. Most of the "real" preppers have larger than normal supplies of the basics only. Food, Clothing, Shelter. (most don't have much shelter). If any problems of any type occur the basics are there to postpone starvation.

No big deal really.

One question though. Have you ever been hungry? You know what I mean right? Truly hungry. No food at all for say three days. Ever been there?
