In 2+ years of sailing the Caribbean, I have never seen the Green Flash. Just about everyone we met claimed to have seen it. My wife claimed to have seen it. She made this claim while sitting in the cockpit having sundowners with me. I don’t dispute the digital camera evidence. But, IMHO, some people (and cameras) require more sundowners than others before they can see this phenomenon.

Heh. That may be, slomo, but I've seen it twice (Malibu, Maui) and kids in elementary school drink more alcohol than I do. Smithsonian Magazine did an excellent piece on the phenomenon years ago, along with lots of well-written explanatory scientific stuff.

I think the biggest problem in people being able to see the "green flash" is the misconception that comes with the term "flash". There is no sudden increased lumenescence, but mearly the gradual change of refracted light proceeding through the spectrum as the sun receeds on a clear dry atmosphere with a unobstructed horizon. When the red-orange gives way to yellow-blue (making green) there is a moment of visual green. The flash refers to the moment, not an intensity. I've seen it three times and it's a phenomenon, but not a spectacular event. 'take care and joy, Aythya crew

I found that the best way to view the green flash is through a Heineken bottle!

My wife and I have seen the green flash a number of times and tried to photograph it many times. We have all kinds of pictures of the sun dropping below the horizon but none of the green flash. that is an amazing photo.

Once you learn how "to see" you will see almost every day (in the Caribbean) as far as you have clear sky (no clouds) at the horizon. It is just a blink of hey.

I have been trying to nearly 30 years. A couple of years ago motoring into Staniel Cay with no wind 4 of us saw it. The following night at Big Major we saw it again. Once again it has become elusive, but that doesn't keep us from trying. Right after I took this pic it showed itself for the first time......i2f

Actually, with a good observance there is the sensation of a flash - due to the refractive differences of the colours of light, the green becomes visible when the sun's disc is well below the horizon, so that what is seen is the yellow/red extinguish itself, then the green grows from a small fire to the distinctive lenticular shaped blob of green, then it fades out rapidly.
