If you guys trusted us, treated us like adults, and allowed us to edit our own posts, beyond a half hour, some of us would have gladly edited this out on the FIRST mention of it..
I read a whole lot more than I post here and you guys are a great brainstorming session. But......the above quote is not really a bad idea. Everyone that's ever posted on any forum or drawn a breath of air has said something in haste that they would retract shortly thereafter. If not, none of us would be married. I've never really understood why, on some forums, I cant edit my own post. Then again, I don't really have a dog in this fight. Apologies to Michael Vick.

Chuck,

After 3580 + views and 90 + posts CAN I ask you ONCE again to please reconsider and re-join the forums, we newbies cannot afford to loose one seasoned sailor every 8 weeks here (Sully, Chuck...who is next?)

Please get back to us if you want us to love the sea as much as you do...

I gotta say I loved reading your posts Chuck, but if you have to go, thats your choice, I hope you come back eventually.

As for the Mods here, I am a Noob on this forum but I have posted and acted as a Mod before and this site is excellent for Mods not becoming personally/emotionally involved in the task of Moderating.

I have the feeling that if a solution to this kind of issues is met by the mods Chuck may reconsider to re-join.

Let's keep our fingers cross...mine are

Chuck left...I'll miss his input.

That's it!
James, you technically correct. However, may I point out that the members in a public forum create all of it's content. We members are in fact the reason 'we' are here. 'We' are the experts, the teachers, the entertainment.

Look at the forum stats on a average day. There are many more people who visit this forum who are non members, who stop by just to read what 'we' post. While it's not a democracy you can see what happens to the forum if "we" don't show up.

Moderators have to strike a balance, that's the point.

I agree that we will all miss Chuck's input and that's a point as well.

I don't think that CF.com can afford to keep loosing top posters every month without loosing traffic...

It is just as if American Airlines all of a sudden started loosing premier pilots...no matter what they do, they would loose traffic...

Mods, can you please try to get Chuck back to CF.com internally, maybe you want to get Sully back as well....

Thanks

Crossed fingers are nice - but as one of the Mods, I'd appreciate constructive advice as to the solution(s) to these kind of issues, as would (I'm certain) the other Mods. Please trust that none of us relishes controversy & dissention.

Sully does come back on a regular basis. He just refuses to post. Hopefully this will change in time as that was an unfortunate misunderstanding which cost this forum two valuable members.

I would hope that Sully and Alan will both reconsider and return as the forum is poorer for their absence.

When some go, some arrive. Also some who rarely write may write more often. Its the internet, its dynamic, people come and go. With every change the ripple can be a little odd. Some who may have been intimidated may start contributing more again, or new people find it a better 'fit'. Often its a quiet person who is easily intimidated into not contributing, who has excellent thoughts and experience.

This has to be a joke. The Mods have no control over there free will.

They need to grow a thicker skin. Period !!

We have had people leave before and come back. It sometimes takes a while. I don't think it can be rushed. Just let things run their natural course. If they're gonna come back, they'll do it when they are ready.

All these posts have made it plain they are wanted.

Also, I bet there are messages in the background going to Chuck (and others) from the mods and others.

I think what you are asking for is already being done...

They did not leave because the thickness or their skin Capatin Morgan, they did mainly for unersolved issues with mods. I am not blaming either of the parties and my post was not a joke it was just my humble opinion.

Thanks for your reply Captain Morgan

1) I will also miss Chuck. Miss Sully too.

2) The reason why this is my primarly - almost my only - Sailing Forum is because of the civility. For 4 years I administered the Mercedes Benz Club of America Forums. We had similar rules:

- No politics
- No personal attacks
- No global company, organization or country bashing. You could say bad things about a product, for instance, but you had to be specific as to why it was bad.
- Zero tolerance for the above.

Thanks, Admin & Mods for keeping this a great place to hang out.
