I think the tradition of superstition on boats comes from a time not all that long ago when boating was much more dangerous than it is now. The 100th anniversary of the sinking of the TITANIC is right upon us.

Superstitions annoy me.

It's long been said that nobody's an athiest on the battlefield or on the seas..

I think the titanic anniversary is on Saturday night is it not?

..speaking of which, did anybody catch the story about 3D titanic being edited by censors in China. Apparently, they took out Kate W's nude scene as they were worried that so may people in the cinema would try to cop-a-feel that it'd spoil the view for those sitting behind:
Chinese government denies moviegoers Kate Winslet

btw: the photo at the top of the article is genius

How the hell did china ever get so populated? Maybe they're just jealous of nice sized brests.

I'm not superstitous. And, since I'm not I like to go against the grain of superstitions (although some may have some basis in fact).

In honor of this Friday the 13th I sailed (well...motored mostly) from Utila to Roatan!

Well, actually it was a good thing, the prevailing trade winds here are ENE and they were quite light on the 13th. So a motor-sail to windward in light air beats bashing to windward in the normal 15-20 knot trades. The route from Utila to Roatan is directly into the prevailing wind. They are amped up a bit for the next few days blowing 20-25 from the E-SE...so we're staying put for a few days before pushing further east.

In short, Friday the 13th was a good day for us. And, in fact we saw about half-a-dozen other vessels underway also....most of the them were going the "right" way and having a nice down-wind sail -- looked like a good day for them too.
