Fly Into Cabo And Sail Home

Just wondering if anyone has had a problem with flying into Mexico on a one way ticket? Problems with the Airlines or the Mexican authorities. I will be sailing back to San Francisco after being in Cabo for just a few days.

It's the airlines that make that "rule". I've done the Baja Bash twice, with no problemo from the Mexican government. Looking for crew?

Will you be crewing on someone else's boat?

If so, what generally works is for the master of the boat to send you a letter on boat's letterhead, addressed "To Whom it May Concern", stating that you will be joining the boat as crew and departing on or about such-and-such date, and that the master of the boat accepts responsibility for clearing you out of the Country as crew on his boat. He should include the boat's ID info (e.g. USCG Documentation Number) and current location.

If it's your own boat, bring your boat's documentation certificate and inbound clearance papers.

I'm doing the opposite and will be flying out of La Paz. Is there some type of clearance required for that exercise?

I dont know if things have changed in the last 15 years or so, but I've flown in/ sailed out, flown out/ sailed in with no questions asked.

Good to hear. I used to cross the border with just a driver's license too. I know that's changed.

My friend just did exactly that (Cabo) both ways about 2 times each in the last year all one way. Absolutely no issues at all. I booked a couple of her flights and picked her up and dropped her off at the airport so I know. You need your airline ticket and passport and that's it.
Mexico ain't Tahiti.

Edit. One of those times she flew down with one of those expensive 12v refrigerator coolers. No worries, fees, hassles from the Mexican authorities at all.

We have flown both ways, one way on the gulf side of mexico, never a problem so far, need ticket and passport!

I don't know about that particular route but I would say it may be more accurate to say it is the airlines acting in conformance to regulation handed down from the govt.

Would you tell us which particular regulation that would "more accurately" be, because I don't believe there is one. At least not a Mexican regulation. This question comes up fairly often on the Mexican travel boards, and the consensus is that the international carriers would like you to have a round trip ticket because if there is any trouble with your documentation when you arrive, they are the ones that will have to fly you back out again. The Mexican domestic airlines couldn't care less.
