I am in North fort Lauderdale for a week and am trying to find a few places to look at boat stuff. Nothing particularly just stuff I need I will know it when I see it. I know there are places around . But I can't remember the names. Many thanks

The biggest general "boat stuff" source in Fort Lauderdale is Sailorman's.

Take a couple of marine supplier catalogs with you when you go to Sailormans. Sometimes their prices for used stuff is more than WM or Defender.

+1 on that. Sailorman used to have killer deals but the last time I was there most of the stuff they had was retail or more. May still have some bargains hidden in the dark recesses but I agree to taking a catalog to compare.

If your a serious buyer, Chuck the owner will usually beat defenders prices.

+3 as well. The boys over there are a bit greedy for what they have.

Of course you didn't say what kind of stuff. The area behind Lesters Diner is blocks full of Marine related stuff.

Re: Florida used boat parts

I would give sailorman a low rating compared to the other used marine parts places on the east coast. Sure they all will haggle a bit, but the prices are still not super cheap. If it's only $80 below new it's not much of a deal. I would rather spend more and get the manuals, hardware, gaskets, ect...

In orential they actually look up the west marine price and take a percentage off, kinda a joke.

There is an Outdoor World & Bass Pro Shop by the Lauderdale Airport. Restaurant inside with seating on the pond. There is a Pro fishing hall of fame next door. All together, a full day's entertainment. BASS shop on the right (south); restaurant poking into the pond. Hall of Fame on the north end of the pond.

If ou can get to Miami, look for STONE AGE ANTIQUES Stoneage Antiques the Nautical Place On the Miami River. This huge place never ceases to stun me. If you don't find it, you probably didn't need it Lots of old, still servicable stuff here. It will take you at least a day to cruise the store. There are some nearby seafood restaurants here but some may be pricey. You might get a sailboat up the river past fixed and Bascule bridges. Check your charts. My SeaClear looks like you can if you clear 75 feet.

If you're looking for a fun wander, I second Stone Age Antiques. I've been poking around in there off and on for forty years. I see something new/old and interesting every time.
My store is just around the corner from Stone. If you come visit me, I'll buy you a Cuban coffee.

HopCar - is it possible to navigate up river to Stone Age? My charts say yes. I seem to recall seeing large work boats on the river there.

Re: Florida used boat parts

You can get pretty close to Stone Age by boat but finding a place to tie up would be a problem. Glass Tech Boat Yard might let you tie up for a little while. That's about a two block walk from Stone. I've got a dock but you'd have to raft off one of the boats already there. We'd have to ask the owners if that would be ok. I could squeeze in a small dinghy.

What about in the Annapolis / Baltimore area. I heard there was a used marine stuff store there. Anyone know?

Or Cleveland / Toledo / Detroit? They are all closer to me then Fl.

There used to be a great place in Panama City, FL, but they went belly-up years ago.
