Florida to Cartagena

Can anyone advise me of the best route to take? I just got a new boat.

Sent from an undisclosed location on the high seas or from the lounge chair by the pool, you decide.

Re: Florida to Cartagena

Nearly died from the heat and humidity in Cartagena last year, as well as contracting bronchitis. Best of luck!

Lots of phoney-baloney in Cartagena.

Re: Florida to Cartagena

Depends on several things. If your new boat is that blue one in the photo then I recommend the coastal route.

Want to get there fast or stop and smell the coral?

Where in Florida?

Only two options of course, west to the Yucatan or east to the Windward Passage. I kind of like island hopping the Bahamas to the Windward. Slightly shorter but can be more windward work than the other side.

Re: Florida to Cartagena

Not sure if you are a troll or not but i will assume the best.

We did it a few years ago. We made our way around to charlotte harbor and then stayed north of the gulf stream as long as possible as we headed to isle majeras. From there we headed down the coast with a couple of stops and went into Belize and on to Rio Dulce for a month or so and then across to the Bay Islands and down to the Vivorios and across to Bocas del Toro. From there down to the an overnight in Colon and on to Porobello and on to San Blas. From San Blas an easy run to Cartagena.

One thing is the weather. You must watch the weather as at times you will not be able to sail as the wind is in your face, not close haul but on your bow and you will sit and wait for a no wind day to motor some parts of it. The hard part is getting around the corner but once around sailing is good.

good luck.

Re: Florida to Cartagena

Its off topic because asking for the best route for traveling with a pool float is meant to be humorous.
