mmmm, I can taste it now mercury or not! I think Hemingway would have thrown that little guy back though..... I believe he caught a 1000 pounder. The record is about 1500 pounds if I remember right.... Those days are gone.....

I was working a boat south of Louisiana about 150 nm, a couple of years ago and would see schools of 90 to 120 lb tuna rolling around all day for two weeks at a go.

WOW! The fishing record is 1487... looked it up... If you've ever caught a 30 pounder.... you know these are a muscle torpedo... hard to imagine 1000 lbs of that!

i used to catch giants up to 500 or so,theres nothing like it.after that all other fish are just bait...i still carry a recreational permit and 2 80 lb class rods and one of them has a penn 2 speed with about 900 yards of 100lb line on it. this type of gear is called stand up.it comprizes of a back brace and a gimble pad for the rod seat.tye into any monster twice your weight and your into some serious fun

Back in the 1980s I was the asst. manager of Oregon Inlet Fishing Center on the NC Outer Banks and everyday they would bring in the monster tuna,bluefin,yellowtail,bigeye,large atlantic blue marlin,100 lb sailfish,big ass sharks,big bull mahi,waho,cobia,the man that wrote the story "Jaws" went out and caught what would have been a world record Blue Marlin but when it pulled the boat from NC to Virgina(70 miles?) and they got it on board the sharks had eaten quite a bit of it so no record ..those days are over, but man what fun..back then 6 people could go fishing for 600.00 come in and sell the fish to a fish house for 2.00 lb and sometime get up to 4000.00 for the fish ...Japanise buyers would be at the dock with cash in hand and they would stick the fish with a auger and make you an offer for certain fish some times as much as 5000.00 for one fish...we would take soy and wasabi on the boat and eat the fish alive..crazy days...Damn I hate getting old...DVC

When I'm out in the ocean and I have my lures in trying to catch some yellow fin....is it possible that I could catch a bluefin? If so, I want the phone number of a fish buyer in Japan to sell the thing to. Does anyone out there have a phone number I can call? I figure I only have a matter of hours to get the thing airlifted and on ice, so I better be prepared. If I'm in international waters do i need a license? This is like a lottery. If someday I catch one of these bad boys, that's potentially $200,000 in my pocket. I want to be legal, safe and environmentally friendly, but the truth is if I can cash in on this, I want to be ready. Thoughts?

Where are you exactly? The Atlantic Bluefin Tuna is listed as a "species of concern", which is one step up from being under the US Endangered Species Act. The Southern Bluefin is listed as critically endangered, while the Pacific Bluefin is a bit overfished but otherwise OK.

I'm actually in the Pacific Northwest so Pacific Bluefin would be my bounty. My estimates seem to be off as one recently sold for 1.8 million US dollars. Obviously inflated due to the politics involved in the first auction of the year, but my point is made.

I mean really, how hard can it be to catch one? All I have to do is catch a couple of them and I'm like set for life. If I do, I want to be able to sell it. Out of all my searches I can't seem to find any resources, websites or contacts on how to actually sell the thing?
