Fame at last!
BBC News - British couple help stranded Syrian refugees to safety
As we were so close to the beach, in this instance the situation was very clear cut. However, we have asked our insurers what their stance on the situation would be if we were to find ourselves in the same position as the Salamis Filoxina.

Re: Fame at last!
NornaB, what an experience! So many of these refugees drown in an attempt to get to Greece. It sounds like conditions were calm, but I think they were very lucky you were around.
You were good Samaritans .

Re: Fame at last!
Well done, Norna B
It almost sounds as if the delivery boat for the refugees hung around to be sure they'd be assisted. Imagine taking the care to find a bay with the current going in, and a yacht close by, and those guys have such a bad rep, too.
You guys, must have had a very exciting evening!
Good on ya.
Ann

Re: Fame at last!
Thanks everyone, it was a very panicky couple of hours whilst trying to get everyone safe. Luckily we had the rest of the day to recover.

gave you a mention in this thread
http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...-133541-3.html
it must have been a worrying decision to go to their aid once you realised they were "illegals"

hats off to cf members "nornabrion" for being good Samaritans and saving refugees.
,but you have to ask your self ,with the massive influx, over 10,000 a month into southern Europe.
how long before yachts become a target for traffickers for the use of clandestinely getting people in to Europe,or desperate people hijacking yachts and their crew to evade the authoraties.

Re: Fame at last!
Great job NormaBiron! Very well done!
I wonder when the EU will face it and admit much more has to be done to help govts in Greece, Italy and Spain act accordingly.
Cheers,
b.
