Eliminating instruments: The rope test

I heard there is a valid way to know
Everything about the weather, sailboat, and crew.

Just inspect a rope hung from the mast

45 degrees........wind
90 degrees........blow
Limp rope.........iron sail
Slit rope............pirates
Frayed rope.......cat
Stiff rope...........icing
Salty rope..........high seas
Gnawed rope......rat aboard
Glitter on rope...girl aboard
Smelly rope.......out of toilet paper
Loop in rope.......call from banker

There must be 2000 more.

Philip

Re: Eliminating instruments: The rope test

The way I heard it you hang a rock on a rope:
- rock casts a shadow - sun is shining
- rock is wet - its raining
- can't see rock - its foggy
- rock is moving - its windy
- rock is missing - its really windy

Re: Eliminating instruments: The rope test

A rock? Please!
Sailors only use conch shells.

Conch shell still - calm
Conch shell moving - windy
Conch shell wet - raining
Conch shell missing - hurricane

and, for our New England brethren
Conch shell white - snowing

My personal contribution,
Two conch shells - rum front
